UNEP’s team demonstrated Strata at Europe’s leading forum on international partnership: the European Development Days (EDD).
EDD is organized by the European Commission with the aim to advance innovative solutions to tackle the most pressing global challenges. The forum’s 15th edition was themed around “Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world”.
During the forum, an expert from UNEP was interviewed about how Strata aims to bridge the data gap for better integrated climate change, environment, and peace and security assessments (see video below). The session provided the audience with a brief introduction and demonstration of the Strata pilot tool for the Horn of Africa region.
The Strata project intends to boost understanding of climate-change related risks using real-time data to identify geospatial hotspots. Although there were only few organizations present with a specific focus on peace and security, there was a lot of enthusiasm in future collaborations and joint efforts by, among others, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (Global Environmental Crime Programme), Search for Common Ground, Care International, International Alert.
